Italian sound artists Marta Salogni and Stefano Pilia have issued a joint record titled Phren, described as a work of accretion where signals are processed through a chain of filters, tape echo and a Revox reel‑to‑reel machine. The duo’s approach layers and mutates the material, often beginning with Pilia’s guitar before the sounds become unrecognisable through successive manipulation.
The opening track, titled “Sopra l’acque scavate,” features distorted tones that evolve like a frosty fireworks display, illustrating the pair’s method of reshaping audio as it moves from source to listener. The release notes highlight the plastic, ever‑changing nature of the compositions.
