Italian composer Gigi Masin’s cult classic Wind, originally released in 1986, is being issued in an expanded form by Numero Uno, marking the album’s 40th anniversary. Masin described the renewed attention as both strange and wonderful, noting his happiness and sense of honour at the renewed appreciation.
The reissue positions Wind as a key ambient work, a status that has grown over the years thanks in part to high‑profile references such as Björk’s 2002 track “It’s In Our Hands,” which sampled Masin’s piece “Clouds.”
As first reported by The Quietus, Masin’s background includes a childhood in Italy, early guitar playing and work in radio, experiences that informed his eclectic musical outlook.
